Easter cleaning doesn‘t have to be boring, and although we know that at TNT Group Janitorial + Building Solutions, you might need some ideas for proving that to your kids. There are lots of ways to make your cleaning Easter-themed this holiday, having fun and teaching lifelong skills.
Use Egg Hunting and Easter Cleaning to Teach about Tidying
As adults, we know how important tidying is. However, teaching kids how important tidying is and why they should do it is a whole other basket of eggs. Why would they “waste time” doing chores and cleaning when they could be playing a game or making a bigger mess?
You can leverage the hoppy holiday to teach your kids why tidying is important by creating an egg hunt in your house. This can be extra fun for you as a parent because you get to impart valuable life lessons, and we're about to permit you to make a mess.
Step 1: Get Some Eggs
For this activity, you'll need eggs. You can do the little plastic ones full of candy or do little presents. Get inventive with it, and tailor it to your kids' tastes to make it the perfect motivation.
Step 2: Hide and Mess
To do this activity, put the little bunnies to bed, and pour yourself a glass of your favorite whatever. Now, pick the rooms you will use for the hunt and make them messy. Bonus points if they're already messy; you just use this to your advantage. If they’re not messy, and your partner asks what the heck you’re doing de-tidying, you can throw TNT Group Janitorial + Building Solutions under the bus.
The point here isn't to spill stuff or make the house dirty. Instead, we're looking to create an un-tidy area that is hard to find things in. That way, you can start hiding your eggs in piles of clothes, under discarded pillows, in couch cushions, under upturned rugs, and within piles of homework and toys. Get inventive and have fun; this is your opportunity to have a good time with it. You can even make it a competition between you and your partner.
Step 3: Teach and Turn Loose
Once the chickadees awaken in the morning, lay out the rules for them. Something like, “Okay, we’re going to have an egg hunt. There are a bunch of eggs for each of you hidden throughout the house, but the Easter Bunny told me they made a huge mess. So we'll clean up the Easter Bunny's mess while we find our eggs."
You can teach them how to tidy by explaining what should happen with pillows and clothes, and other detritus ahead of time (because they probably won’t hear you at the height of the hunt). This is an ideal opportunity to show them the right way to do things and build empathy so they won’t think tidying up is something they should leave for other people (namely, you).
Natural Egg Dying, Natural Easter Cleaning
Green cleaning is super important because it helps keep your family and your planet safe. You can clean green with simple things like vinegar and lemon and teach your kids about all the natural ingredients you can use by doing egg dying naturally.
Natural Egg Dying Recipe
This is some fun kitchen chemistry. You can use a variety of household items to create colors, such as:
· Beets (Makes red, pink, or brown) 1 large beet, 2 cups water
· Red cabbage (Makes blue) ½ red cabbage, 2 cups water
· Red onion skins (Makes orange or brown) skins from 4 large onions, 2 cups water
· Turmeric (Makes yellow) ¼ cup sliced fresh turmeric or 2 tablespoons dried turmeric, 2 cups water
Combining the ingredient and water and boiling will produce a vivid color. You'll add 2 teaspoons of vinegar before dipping. You can play along with how many times you dip the eggs and how long you soak them. Remember to let the egg air dry and not rub it after.
Make Easter Cleaning Fun
Finding ways to incorporate fun cleaning into your Easter festivities is a great way to make cleaning a lifelong habit for your kids (and make cleaning less of a chore for you.
